Fil-Mex Restaurant Quezon City: Walrus Katipunan
Katipunan will always have a special place in my heart. Once my home for 4 years in college, I can still vividly remember how I spent my days hanging out in its streets after school. And while most of my college favorites aren’t around anymore, I’m happy that there’s a whole plateau of new Katipunan restaurants, cafes, and whatnots. One of them is Walrus Katipunan. A small restaurant bar that offers excellent Fil-Mex food and superb dance music. And here are 3 awesome reasons why you should drop by soon!
1st Reason: Delicious Fil-Mex Eats at Walrus Katipunan
It’s no secret that Fil-Mex food is one of the top cuisines for Filipinos. And what’s not to love about it? They’re tasty, savory, and very very festive! And I’m quite happy to note that Walrus Katipunan offers a myriad of delicious items for every ‘Katipunero/Katipunera’ to munch on.
Let’s start with my favorite appetizers. I absolutely loved the Walrus Famous Chicken Skin (Php 80.00). Well-seasoned chicken skin fried to a delicious crisp! Once you pop, you can’t stop indeed. Another thing to enjoy is the hefty Sisig Nachos Locos (Php 130.00). Crunchy tortilla chips topped with tasty melted cheese, tomatoes, and spicy sisig. Honestly, I couldn’t decide if I wanted rice to go with it or not. Sarap!
Now for the mains at Walrus Katipunan. We were served three dishes but I enjoyed the tacos the most. Beef and Chicken Tacos of the Town (Php 140.00 and Php 130.00). Soft tortilla topped generously with red cabbage, onions, tomatoes, and savory meat. Each had a perfect balance of delicious flavors that will have you craving for more.
One the other hand, the Chicken and Sisig Thrilla in Quesadilla (Php 130.00 and Php 120.00) were also delicious and filling. While the Kare-Kare Fab-burrito (Php 170.00) was also a peanut-hearty option for mains.
2nd Reason: Thirst-Quenching Drinks
What’s a Fil-Mex Restaurant without festive drinks?
If you’re feeling a little adventurous, go for the Mad Amigo (Php 80.00). A sweet blend of fruity apple infused with rum. My favorite at Walrus Katipunan! Have the whole barkada in town? Go for the Strawberry Fields Forever (Php 250.00). A tall pitcher of strawberry and basil slush with a kick of rhum.
Or you can just go all mellow with the non-alcoholic Horchata (Php 60.00). A creamy concoction of rice milk, cinnamon, and vanilla.
3rd Reason: Party Like a Rockstar at Walrus Katipunan
Who says we titos and titas can’t rock the night away? While the patrons of Walrus Katipunan are mostly college students, we surely did enjoy our night out then. Sure the DJ started with some songs that were out of my personal radar. But as the night progressed, the music turned to the familiar – 90s beats! Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys, anyone?
All in all, we really enjoyed our first dining experience at Walrus Katipunan. A small Fil-Mex Restaurant that’s perfect for every kind (and age) of hungry!
