Manila Events: An Afternoon Delight with J Cuppacakes
I’m a sweet tooth. I cannot end a meal without any dessert. Whether it’s a fruit, ice cream, kakanin, or cake. And why not, right? It makes me happy and puts me in a really good mood. And recently my #SugarRush dreams finally came true. Just a few weeks ago, I had the chance to try my hands at baking at the dainty J Cuppacakes in SM Jazz Residences Makati. Together with some fellow food bloggers, we had An Afternoon Delight with J Cuppacakes. Did we nail it? Read on to find out!
A Sweet Afternoon of Baking
Okay so before anything, here’s some good news and some bad news. The good news is: no cupcakes got burned and ours turned out pretty cute. The bad news is: everything looked and smelled so good, we must have eaten our sugar intake for a full week that day!
Last August 25, me and 19 other food bloggers and media personalities were personally invited by Chef Julianne Bernardo for an afternoon baking session.
We were divided into four groups and were assigned to bake our own Confetti Vanilla Cupcake with Vanilla Buttercream Frosting or Chocolate Cupcake with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting. Being Netflix binge-watchers, I named our team Team Cupcake Rush. I was with Chelsea Robato (@chelseamaey), Julie Lorenzo ((@feedmytummyph)) and Nina Cylene (@vamosviaje). And that afternoon, we had to do J Cuppacakes’ famous Chocolate Cupcake with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting.
Step 1: Ingredients Gathering and Prepping
Each team was given a station to prep while baking was done by the staff in their kitchen. And so the madness ensued!
First stop: gathering all the ingredients from the common pantry. And it was crazy! I really felt like I was in an actual episode of #NailedIt!
As soon as Julianne gave everybody the go signal, everyone just went crazy scrambling for all that’s needed! Of course I volunteered to do it because I’m competitive like that. Luckily, Julianne and her staff were around to help us figure things out.
Step 2: Batter and Frosting Making + Decorating
Once everything was complete, Jules took on the role of doing the batter. While Chelsea did the frosting in a breeze (she’s been baking since 5)! Then the fun part: decorations. Once the cupcakes were all baked and cooled down, all four of us tried our hands in cupcake decoration. We did the classic rosettes, spirals, and whatnots.
We then proceeded to flatlay our proud creations in the flatlay station. It was hot, crazy, and fun!
They also chose three winners for each category: Best Decorated Cupcake, Best Cupcake Flat-lay, Best Cupcake Selfie.
Although I would have wanted to win, but unfortunately, your girl isn’t as creative as many others (haha!) But I’m super glad my teammates Jules and Chelsea did for best decorate cupcake!
Step 3: EATING!
Of course, who bakes without eating? We must have baked 2 dozens so all four of us packed away a box to of cupcakes to bring home. The rest we ate after our baking session, alongside the wonderful dessert and meryenda spread prepared by J Cuppcakes that afternoon. Super proud how moist our cupcakes were! (AKA ‘MAY FUTURE’!)
All in all, I could attest that my afternoon delight with J Cuppcakes is one of my best and sweetest (literally and figuratively) foodie events to date. It wasn’t easy to say the least but I’m super delighted I did it. Who knows, this might be the start of a new passion project, right? Thanks J Cuppacakes for having us!
Thank you too for the awesome gift box I got to take home to share with family.
I absolutely loved the oatmeal cookies and fudge bars! As well as to the following event sponsors: Magnolia, All About Baking, Celebrations Party Central, Kitchen Aid, April Son Photography & Design, I Do Nails, and Stuarts Tea PH. Till the next!
