Where to Eat in Bataan: Wooden Leaf Cafe (Balanga City)
For months now, I’ve been on the lookout for more healthy eats. Lucky for me, part of our pre-event tour of the Pawikan Festival 2019 in Bataan led us to a quaint joint in the provincial capital of Balanga. The Wooden Leaf Cafe is a casual restaurant offering freshly prepared healthy dishes. And the best part? You’re nestled in a cozy ambiance filled with greens and rustic decor as if you’re in an actual rainforest. Totally IG worthy and taste worthy, if I must say. Let’s eat!
Open Faced Burrito
Honestly, everything served to us at the Wooden Leaf Cafe was good – light and healthy yet tasty and filling. But of course, I had my personal favorites. Starting with the hearty Open Faced Burrito.
I loved how all the different ingredients made a tasty medley of savory, sweet, and fresh flavors. Both the chicken and rice had an earthy spice. While the lettuce, garbanzos, and yogurt-like sauce balanced the rich palate of the plate. Super good!
Beef Tapa Bibimbap
Love tapa? How about Bibimbap? Both are good in their own right but putting them together in one dish? GENIUS!
Imagine the bibimbap’s sweet, sour, and spice married with the meaty-savory taste of our local beef tapa. Definitely one must eat dish here!
Chicken Waldorf
Craving for greens? Get your does of healthy with the Chicken Waldorf.
A generous serving of grilled chicken, almonds, tomatoes, and orange bits. Sarap!
Healthy Drinks at Wooden Leaf Cafe
I always take delight whenever I encounter a cafe that offers healthy drinks. And I might have hit a jackpot with what the cafe had in that department. Imagine gulping down drinks pegged with funny-witty names like Katy Berry, Matcha Colada, and Banapple Pie. Not to mention they’re made from purely natural ingredients and superfoods. Wouldn’t you be just too excited for that?
Well, I did. And I tasted almost everything on the drinks menu. Needless to say, my favorites were the Katy Berry (mixed berries + Chia Seeds + Greek Yoghurt), the Tropikale (Orange, Mango, Banana, Papaya, Basil), Honey Heist, and 50 Shades of Green.
Other must eats at the Wooden Leaf Cafe include the Grilled Spinach Cream Pasta, Soy Chicken Pasta, Grilled Sinigang Salad, Chicken Insalata. We were all too full that day that we unfortunately had to skip dessert.
