I am a big fan of shabu-shabu, hot pot, ramen and what not. However, in my pasts visits in Bangkok, we always focused on Thai food. Which is obviously good, cause that’s the way you learn the culture of the people too. This time around, aside from having the chance to try Somboon, a famous Chinese restaurant, we also got to experience a really good Shabu Shabu.
This restaurant can be found at 5th floor of Terminal 21 which is just one of the fascinating malls I’ve seen in Bangkok. You’ll be brought to different parts of the world in every floor that you’re going to visit. You can literally be in San Francisco, Rome, Tokyo, Turkey and more in one mall but hey, that’s another story. This time, we are to talk about Penguin Eat Shabu.
And as a big fan of shabu shabu, the place didn’t disappoint me. They offer three (3) levels of buffet starting from 349 baht and we have opted for the 659 that comes with wagyu beef glazed with teriyaki sauce and rib eye Australian beef. Of course, it was going to be my first time to try it and it’s not every day that I am in Thailand therefore, go for the best right. I wanted to sample everything they had to offer. One thing I’ll never forget about this place? The beef. And it’s also the main reason why I’ll definitely go back here every time I’m in Thailand.
We had their suki, which is the spicy soup and the shabu soup which is their trademark soup are both incredibly delicious. We also had a choice of refillable drinks like a Chinese sweet flavored drink or lemon iced tea. I went for the iced tea which was familiar to me but then the Chinese drink was also really good. I tried from my friend.
Although the place is buffet, they are served ala carte style. But wow to the service of the staff, my sauce ( which you all know I am a lover of sauce was never empty) so was my drinks. I remember a friend saying, hey it gets refilled without me noticing. That’s how good and attentive their staff is.
The beef was amazing, it feels like it melts in your mouth. I also really loved their sushi platter—everything was super balanced. It felt like the reaction I had when I ate at Taiwan’s Aquatic Addiction, when the sushi was super fresh and super good. My friend had to tell me, “Hey, I haven’t tried that yet, for me to stop. It was so good I just kept going.”
The place itself is welcoming because it’s simple that it makes you feel like you’re just home having the best shabu shabu experience. I have to thank Tourism Authority of Thailand Philippines for suggesting this place. Definitely one I would come back to.
