Travel Guides: 7 (Fun) Things to Do in Guam
Hafa Adai, travellers! Looking for a new destination this 2020? Well, we have the perfect suggestion for you — GUAM! Just a mere 3.5 hour plane ride from Manila, this US territory is a tropical paradise boasting of beautiful beaches, year-round diving, and a million other fun activities that includes… TAX-FREE SHOPPING! Check out these top 7 things to do in Guam!
Rivercruise at Valley of the Latte
Admittedly, I don’t have much knowledge on the history and culture of Guam. Except that it looks and probably feels very much like the Philippines, with US living standards, hehe. So to start of our list of top things to do in Guam is to visit the Valley of the Latte.
The experience takes place along the Talofofo & Ugum River, a short 30 minute ride south of the city center. Embark on a unique and once in a lifetime experience as you thread the waters in a picturesque gondola ride. Here, guides will share the rich history and culture of the Ancient Latter site, its local waters, and its wildlife. Guests are also taught how to make traditional fire and basket weaving techniques.
Visit Guam Museum
Next on our list is a visit to the Guam Museum. Located within the vicinity of the Chamorro Village, the Senator Antonio M. Palomo Guam Museum Chamorro Educational Facility opened in 2016. It showcases over 4,000 years of history and Chamorro culture. It currently has over 250,000 unique artefacts, documents, and photographs in its collections. The Guam Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Take IG Worthy Shots of the Island Art and Street Murals
Into the arts? Then you’ve come to the right place. Take a nice drive around the island and marvel at the numerous #InstaGuam locations all around. Including the festive and color-bursting mural installations made by both local and international artists all throughout the island. Many of which were created during the Spraycation event that took place last May 25-June 23, 2018.
Hiking at Mount Lamlam
Contrary to common knowledge, Guam is actually home to the world’s tallest mountain: Mount Lamlam. Standing at 37,820 feet above the floor of the Marianas Trench, a hike up Mount Lamlam is definitely a must in the things to do in Guam. If offers a sweeping 360° view of Guam’s stunning mountain terrain and rugged coastlines.
And the best part? You don’t need an oxygen tank or winter gear to climb up! You can just wear your normal hiking clothes to conquer this stunning spot. Now that’s what I call impressive!
World Glass Golf in Guam
Fancy some chill time when in Guam? Then try golf! It is also home to seven world class, professional golf courses. With a total of 180 holes including a Jack Nicklaus course and an Arnold Palmer course.
I haven’t tried golf ever but perhaps it’s high time I do? I mean, just look at that awesome view around and beyond!
Do Land, Water, Air Activities in Guam
You see, Guam is about the size of Metro Manila but home to only 170,000 people. So residents have to make sure people have a good time when in the island.
On one hand, you can take flight and fly an actual airplane…. OR.. jump out of one! On the other, you can also do zipline (through the jungle overlooking the ocean) or go off-road on a UTV over Guam’s natural terrain. Love the water? Guam is a year-round diving and snorkelling destination.
Shop Till You Drop with Guam’s Duty Free Shopping
Saving the best for last, no doubt one of the must do’s in Guam is shopping. And not just any shopping, Duty Free, Tax-Free Shopping!
During the GVB event, we were told shopping in Guam is almost a 24/7 thing! You can start oogling over everything at DFS or Guam Premier Outlets. Sashay over to the malls and stores for signature brands. Then finish the day over at Ross or K-Mart for the best late-night shopping runs.
Can’t wait to book your trip to Guam? Well, so do I! Flights from Manila take off everyday via United, PAL, and Cebu Pacific. For more travel information, visit www.visitguam.org. So that’s it Hungry Travelers, see you and have a #GUAMazing time!
