New Restaurant Alert: Tipple and Slaw (Pop Up Katipunan)
It’s been awhile since I’ve last eaten in Katipunan. So when we got invited by my blogger friend Konyoqueen, I gamely said yes. And luckily, it was located in a food spot I’ve been curious about for months now, The Pop Up Katipunan. I’ve often drive past Pop Up Katipunan and I’ve always wondered what’s in there because it looked to grand and spacious from afar. Up close, it had a trailer food park feel, only a bit classier since it’s a combination of al fresco stalls, a few boutique restaurants, clothing shops, and even a Korean grocery. That day we featured two of the boutique restaurants, one being Tipple and Slaw Katipunan. Here’s what you need to try at this new restaurant in Katipunan.
Peeking Chicken Salad (Php 280.00)
First stop: appetizers! Gone are the days when a salad is dull and unappetizing. Now, health-conscious diners have a plateau of flavors and ingredient options for their greens. And I particularly enjoyed the version we had in Tipple and Slaw Katipunan, the Peeking Chicken Salad.
It’s a colorful and appetizing display of fresh greens tossed with chopped roasted chicken and cashew nuts, peaches, blue cheese, then garnished with flower petals. But what tied it all together was the excellent taste of the hoisin dressing, sweet with a bit of tang.
Truffle Pizza (Php 480.00) – HTD Favorite!
To say that Tipple and Slaw Katipunan’s Truffle Pizza is delicious is a serious understatement. Take a whole four cheese pizza, drench it homemade shards of truffle, then top it with fried mushrooms, and you’ve got heaven on a plate.
It’s definitely one of the best pizzas I’ve had in awhile. Highly recommended!
KFC or Katipunan Fried Chicken (Php 250.00/380.00) – HTD Favorite!
Fried Chicken will always be my favorite comfort food. And I think I’ve found a new favorite blend of it with Tipple and Slaw’s KFC or Katipunan Fried Chicken. Big and boneless chicken fillet coated in a flavorful homemade breading, crisp to a golden brown!
Tender and juicy on the inside and crunchy appetizing on the outside. The gravy was also pretty good too. Comes in one piece (Php 250.00) and two piece (Php 380.00) orders with a side of roasted vegetables.
Peri-Peri Grilled Chicken (Php 195.00/285.00)
Next on our menu that afternoon was the Peri-Peri Grilled Chicken of Tipple and Slaw Katipunan. Zesty, flavorful boneless chicken thigh with Peri sauce.
Although tender as the KFC, the Peri-Peri Grilled Chicken was a tad dry and not as flavorful as expected. I didn’t enjoy the meat by itself but was best paired with the creamed spinach and garlic oil.
Desserts: Matcha S’mores and Chocolate S’mores (Php 120.00)
Want to relive your younger days camping, roasting s’mores over bonfire? Well now you can do so, only much classier and inventive. Chocolate covered vanilla ice cream paired with toasted marshmallows, garnished with marshmallow fluff. Sweet, milky, creamy goodness that’s a sure perfect meal-ender.
And you can even make the experience even more gourmet by indulging on the matcha flavor version. Looks good, right?
Overall, I would definitely recommend anyone visiting the Pop Up Katipunan to swing by Tipple and Slaw Katipunan. Classic comfort favorites with new and flavorful twists! Tipple and Slaw is just by the entrance of The Pop Up Katipunan, Xavierville Corner Katipunan Avenue, Loyola Heights, Quezon City.
