Organic Restaurants in Metro Manila: The Wholesome Table
One of the things we actively promote during our travels is Sustainable Tourism. Not quite familiar to the term yet?Sustainable Tourism is basically the concept coined when one visits or travels to a place as a tourist and contributes to make a positive impact. On its environment, society, and even economy. And in the past year, we’ve found our niche in this global movement through food. Remember our blogposts about Sustainable Dining by WFF, Local Food Tourism with the Calabarzon Culinary Tour, and Asheville Farm to Table Tours? And most recently, we were delighted to discover a local restaurant that features organic and sustainable dining. Say hello to The Wholesome Table!
The Wholesome Table Story
The Wholesome Table is an organic restaurant that aims to help you change the way you eat – one plate at a time. And owner restaurateur Bianca Araneta-Elizalde and husband Juan Elizalde believes this can be done by simply going back to basics. By serving our favorite comfort food made with fresh, natural and organic ingredients.
Aside from going au naturale, the thing I loved most about The Wholesome Table is the taste. Offering a wide array of meat and plant-based options, the restaurant serves organic food that’s delicious and palatable.
“I figured Filipinos will enjoy this because they can still have the many dishes that they’re used to eating. Such as burgers, pork, and pizza. But they’re less guilty because they’re coming from good sources. And made with better and healthier ingredients,” Bianca Araneta-Elizalde, owner, points out.
Bestseller Dishes at The Wholesome Table
Chakra Salad (Php 300 Solo/Php 580 Regular)
Speaking of organic, there’s nothing like starting your meal with something fresh and healthy. One of my favourites during our brunch with Explore PH, the Chakra Salad was an awesome appetite opener. I loved the colourful and tasty combination of mixed greens, button mushrooms, almonds, balsamic vinegar.
Plus the hibiscus kombuchua dressing, and organic duck egg on top. It also had toasted coconut chips, chickpea croutons, red onion, tomatoes, squash, and sweet potato. Such a delicious delight of crunch and superfood ingredients!
Poke Bowl (Php 450.00) – HTD Favorite!
Craving from something fresh, light, yet filling? Delight in their bestselling Poke Bowl. Raw Salmon mixed in with wake, brown rice, onion leeks, Japanese Mayonnaise, and Stir Fry Sauce.
It also has Ebiko, Furnace, Togarashi Spice, pickled ginger and romaine lettuce. Loved the freshness of the salmon, the lightness of the sauce, and the filling brown rice. Option to replace with quinoa.
Vietnamese Spring Rolls (Php 400.00)
Love shrimp? Go for the Wholesome Table’s Vietnamese Spring Rolls.
A healthy mix of ocean caught shrimps, rice noodles, cilantro, romaine cabbage, mangoes, cucumber, and mint. Comes with a savoury peanut-y dipping sauce.
Yogi Bowl (Php 540.00)
Go big or go home! Pack a powerful (but still healthy) punch into your day with the Yogi Bowl from The Wholesome.
Love the hearty balance or mushrooms (shiitake, oyster, button), cherry tomatoes, coconut cream, and organic tofu. Option to add Brown Rice or Quinoa.
Lasagna (Php 420.00) – HTD Favorite!
Now if you’re a meat lover like me, there’s no need to worry. As there are also meat-based options here.
Just like their uber-meaty and flavour-packed Lasagna. Grass-fed beef, béchamel, mozzarella, and parmesan cheese.
Bicol Express (Php 330.00)
I love spice. And The Wholesome Table’s version of the Bicol Express was just superb! With crunchy slices of pork bagnet, they elevated the taste with an assortment of organic produce.
Like fresh langka, sigarilyas, green papaya, organic fish sauce and bagging. The spice was just right for the creamy goodness of the coconut cream. More rice please!
Superfood Sticky Rice “Bibingka” (Php 160.00)
I bet you’ve never had Bibingka like this before. Sticky rice laid with sweet latik sauce.
Then topped with cashew nuts, chia seeds, banana, cacao nibs, and desiccated coconut (niyog). A must try indeed!
