On our trip to Bataan in 2015, we found ourselves having time to kill while we stayed at the Plaza Hotel. As Araw ng Kagitingan was hours away, I suggested to my friends that we go visit Stregato Gelateria and grab an ice cream while we wait to beat the heat.
Good thing for us, Stregato Gelateria was literally walking distance from where we stayed and we badly needed something cold as it was a hot day. What was a mere visit turned into unexpected wonder and awe.
Ambiance
When the heat of the summer is getting to you, there’s no other place as inviting as Stregato Gelateria.
Outside of this house of dessert you will find yourself curious as it is painted with almost all the colors on the rainbow. From colorful swings to giant ice cream cones of varying flavors, there’s something that will catch your eye.
Upon entering the place, it felt like I was in a fairy tale. Much of our time was spent taking pictures of each other as the place was very Instagram-worthy. Since it was summer, the heat was unbearable but luckily for us, they had air-conditioning installed. That was an instant plus.
Continuing with the theme of giant cones, they made use of them as chairs and tables. The walls, ceilings, and flooring are all colored in a manner that doesn’t make sense but in a good way. It really felt like you’re transported somewhere that wasn’t killing you with the heat.
Smaller swings are available on one corner of the room and booths on another, displaying their desserts in the wall. Again, very Instagrammable. Almost everywhere you look there will be plants and faux trees arranged to make it look like you’re lost in a forest of spectacle.
From what I’ve described, I guess they were going for an outdoorsy environment indoors, given the patio furniture and the whole bench swings scattered about.
Ice Cream Flavors
After we were done looking around, we almost forgot what we came for: the ice cream.
Their selection of ice cream flavors was varied, and while Pistachio was their best seller, I opted to pick one of their Chocolate flavors.
- Salted Caramel
- Ferrero
- Pistachio
- Strawberry
- Dark Chocolate
- Bubble Gum
- Chocolate Hazelnut
- Cheesecake
- Honey Almond
- Mocha Espresso
These flavors are only off the top of my head, but I know they have eighteen flavors of gelato in total.
Classic
- Single Scoop – ₱70
- Double Scoop – ₱140
What Else Is In The Menu?
Stregato Gelateria is not limited to their namesake. Aside from being a dessert shop, they also sell appetizers, pastas, sandwiches, and crepes.
As we had just lunch, we didn’t have a chance to try out their other offerings and just went with ice cream instead.
A popular entrée is their slow roasted pork belly (₱190). You can check out the full menu in their Facebook page.
For an hour or so, we were having fun taking pictures to post in social media while enjoying our ice cream. Anyone needing to kill time must visit this place.
Stregato Gelato is located at the 1st floor of Galeria Victoria Mall of Balanga City, Bataan.
