I’ve always enjoyed cooking. From picking which recipe to use, shopping for my ingredients, doing the necessary preps, and the cooking per se, I’ve always been a culinarian at heart. And so it goes without saying that I deeply enjoy restaurants that offer this kind of interaction from their diners. Aside from knowing my food was cooked fresh off the grill, one thing I enjoy is the unique thrill it gives to my senses. From seeing the change of colors, to smelling the fresh aroma, to hearing the exciting sizzle, everything about the whole sensory experience excites me. And finally, I’ll get to enjoy the same experience with one of my favorite dishes: Steak. Finally, I’ll get to cook my steak hot and fresh, the lava stone way at Stoned Steaks Restaurant Quezon City.
Why Go For Stoned Steaks?
There are certain rules to cooking a great steak. You need quality meat in a perfect cut, you must season generously, and you need the right heat and timing to achieve your personal preference of ‘doneness’. Newly-opened restaurant Stoned Steaks dares to introduce us to a new nonnegotiable: using the best grill. In their case, you cook your own steak at your own pace on a provided lava stone.
So why lava stone? For one, lava stone retains high temperatures so that customers can cook their own steak exactly the way they like it. One of the oldest and healthiest forms of cooking, it traps the natural flavor of your steak for a delicious and unique way to enjoy your meal, something you simply won’t get from a regular grill.
Reviving a traditional concept of cooking, Stoned Steaks serves their high quality cuts on a 350 degrees Celcius lava rock so you can control the perfection and maintain the hotness and juiciness of your steak. By cutting the meat as it’s searing, you can control how every delightful bite is prepared and cooked.
Where is Stoned Steaks?
Located at 55 Scout Rallos Street, Timog area, Quezon City, Stoned Steaks is the brainchild of Dick and Mars Balajadia. The foodie couple actually made their discovery while on a cruise, where they were amazed and impressed by the way their steaks were cooked and served. Immediately inspired, they formed a plan to introduce this cooking tradition Filipinos.
The Appetizers
To prep us all for the carnivore feast, Dick and Mars delightfully served us their best appetite openers. We were served with their Pumpkin Soup (Php 130.00), Truffle Fries (Php 190.00), Oyster Rockefeller (Php 260.00), Wagyu Spaghetti Meatballs (Php 470.00), and their Seafood Arabiatta (Php 450.00).
We were also treated to some treasures from the sea with their Stoner’s Catch (Php 1350.00). It was platter of salmon, prawns, and scallops also cooked on a hot lava stone plate. I loved how meaty and savory the meatballs were as well as the cheese overload on those rocking oysters!
Make no Mis-Steak at Stoned Steaks
Served on a 350-degree Celcius lava stone plates, we had two kinds of steaks for lunch. First, we had a juicy 350 gram Grade 4 Wagyu Ribeye, good for sharing. And second we had their premium Grade 6 Wagyu Tenderloin which was dry-aged for 28 days. Personally, I enjoyed the Grade 4 more because it just had the right amount of beefy flavor intensity. Since its Grade 6 counterpart was more marbled and and already semi-fermented.
To further enhance the flavor, you can choose from their tasty sauce selection. Choose from their signature stoned, mushroom, bleu cheese, red wine gravy, mustard, peppercorn, and chimichurri. Or you can keep it lowkey with their standard rock salt and pepper mix too. For sides, you can either opt for two kinds of rice: Kimchi Fried at Php 130.00 and Steak Rice Php 110.00. Or you can also choose from Roasted Garlic Mashed Potato (Php 140.00), Mac and Cheese (Php 185.00), Steak Fries (Php 170.00), or Buttered Vegetables (Php 110.00).
Overall, I’d give the place 4 stars out of 5 considering the price, taste, and ambiance. And oh did I mention they have ‘Half Day Thursdays’? If you’re craving for a good serving of Wagyu Steak, then come and enjoy a Wagyu Sirloin for only 1400 for two with sides and soup included at Stoned Steaks! Or if you’re hungry for more, go all out and Steak All You Can every Monday & Tuesday for the whole month of April starting at Php 1599 per person. Don’t miss out on this RARE opportunity! 🙂
