As a fan of seafood, Somboon Seafood Restaurant is like Bangkok’s safe haven for seafood lovers. Last time I was in Bangkok, my friend recommended that I try this but unfortunately, I didn’t have time. I’m glad that I was able to make time for it this trip.
Somboon is a famous chinese restaurant in Bangkok, so famous that there are other restaurants who tried to copy it, made deals with taxi drivers to take you there instead. Don’t fall for it. To check for the branch near you click here.
Their original fried crab curry (230 Baht for 100 G) is an all-time favorite for both locals and tourists. The crab is just utterly delicious paired with curry, you’d probably get the same shocked reaction as ours the first time we had a bite on this. I have to admit, I love crabs but I hate having to dig in. This one, the sauce alone made it everyone’s favorite dish.
They also have deep fried minced prawn for 150 Baht (small) and 300 Baht (large). The best thing about their prawn or the seafood in general that they have at Somboon is that you can taste how fresh the seafoods are. Just like their steamed sea prawns with salt that you can have for 450 Baht and their deep-fried seabass with sweet sauce for 450-500 Baht
For soup, they have tom yam goong which is a combination of hot and sour flavors, spices and herbs to make the broth even more flavorful. Aside from seafoods, they also have fried chicken with cashew nuts, onion and dried chili (125 Baht) and stir-fried morning glory with chili and garlic for 140 Baht (small) and 200 Baht (large).
Quick tip: Be careful when you tell your driver that you’re going to Somboon Seafood because they will tell you that the restaurant is closed and then bring you to the next branch, when in fact they’re going to bring you to “Somboondee Restaurant.” Taxi drivers actually get an enormous commission bringing you there.
The best Somboon Seafood Restaurant that you may visit is located at 895/6-12 Chula Soi8, Bangthadthong Road, Wang Mai, Pathumwan, Bangkok 10330, Thailand (Siam).
