Food has always played a huge part of everyday Filipino life. And if there’s one food trend that clearly stood out during the 5 months of quarantine thus far, it’s got to be Sushi Bake! A unique twist to a classic Japanese favorite, sushi bakes have emerged as delicious treats for every foodie in the metro. And what’s not to love? Layers upon layers of creamy goodness in each pan- rice, mayo, cheese, nori, and a whole variety of succulent toppings ranging from kani, uni, scallops, and what have you. It’s practically a full casserole meal eaten like a taco! And just as how sushi bake has emerged on top of food trends, so did Salmon HQ on the sushi bake list. Why? Three words: Tasty, Overloaded, Satisfying. ITADAKIMASU!
Salmon HQ Bestsellers
My family has always been a huge fan of anything salmon. So I thought, why not have as the star for my sister’s birthday? So while I was seriously contemplating to get the fresh sashimi that Salmon HQ is known for, I decided to go with two of their Sushi Bakes to make things more festive. And I couldn’t have made a better choice!
Their sushi bakes were one of the best I’ve tried during this quarantine. I didn’t even need to take out the cover to know they were value for money! Each pan must have weighed at least 1-1.5 kilograms, no kidding! And the best part? They were packaged carefully for home delivery. The covers even had heating and eating instructions on them. Galing!
Scallop, Salmon, and EBI Aburi Sushi Bake
First up in our taste test was Salmon HQ’s Scallop, Salmon, and EBI Aburi Sushi Bake. Immediately upon opening, I knew I was in for some serious gastronomic treat. A beautiful tray of soft Japanese rice, topped with flame-seared scallops, salmon chunks, and shrimps – luxuriously glazed in Japanese mayo, Tobiko, and a special soy sauce combo. Ahhhh, PURE HEAVEN!
I had my fair share of Sushi Bakes in the past few months but nothing as fancy as this. The combination of all those seafood seriously blew me away! The salmon’s soft texture paired beautifully with the smokiness of the scallops and EBI. Although a little salty for my personal taste (must have been the soy), this one’s a definite must try from Salmon HQ!
Price: Php 700.00 for the small, Php 1,400.00 for Medium, and Php 1,600 for Large. We got the medium which is good for 4-6 persons.
Crunchy California Sushi Bake
Want to keep it classic? Then the Crunchy California Sushi Bake from Salmon HQ is your best bet!
So how’s it like? Well, it’s basically your favorite california maki deconstructed, just 3 times tastier with a crunchy twist. Picture this pan: Sushi Rice, a creamy kani-mango-cucumber mix, topped with and extra crunchy tempura batter. And I wasn’t when I say this one’s value for money: it was so overloaded that it overflowed out of the pan. In fact, it was so heavy that I had to carry the pan with both hands. NO JOKE!
Taste wise, it was very addictive. The mixture was the perfect mix of sweet, salty, and creamy. Not to mention the overly generous serving of shredded Kani in it. LIKE LOADS OF IT (Video proof here! :)). Perfect as it is or wrapped in nori. OR.. if you’re a serial snacker just like me, it’s also great as a dip for crackers and tortilla chips. Yep. In short, YOU REALLY NEED TO TRY THIS!
