Have you ever had those moments of craving something familiar but entirely new at the same time? It’s quite a hard craving to explain, but I know I have. If you’re like me, then the uniquely Filipino chocolates from Manila Chocolatier are sure to tingle your senses. All of their chocolates are infused with the rich, familiar flavors of the Philippines, all while being packaged in the decadence of their locally grown chocolate. Chocolate and authentic Filipino flavors combined, what’s not to love?
Raul Matias, the owner and head chocolatier of Manila Chocolatier, has masterfully curated 15 distinct Filipino flavors to create a boxed set of their world-class chocolates. These flavors take us on a tour across the Philippines, with flavors ranging from our favorite childhood desserts to the bold and strong drinks we’ve grown to love.
What are the different flavors?
As someone with a sweet spot for the freshness of fruits and nuts, my personal favorites are Mango, Pili Nut, and Banana Cue. Equally gratifying are Manila Chocolatier’s other flavors, such as the fruity notes of Buko Pandan, Ube (purple yam), and the citrusy Kalamansi, or the sweet confections of Leche Flan (egg custard), Bukayo (coconut macaroons), Palawan Honey, Panotsa Caramel, and Muscovado Nougat. The strong kick of Barako Coffee and Lambanog (coconut wine) should not be missed, as well as the soothing flavors of Jasmine Tea (Sampaguita) and Salabat (ginger tea).
All of these flavors are packaged in a dark chocolate shell, except for the Ube which uses a milk chocolate base, and Jasmine Tea which uses a luscious white chocolate shell. The blend of the different flavors and their chosen chocolate base really complement each other, like how the full-bodied dark chocolate balances out the sweetness of the more saccharine flavors. The chocolate coats themselves are sourced locally, made from cocoa beans grown in select farms in Davao. Manila Chocolatier’s confections are truly 100% Filipino.
