Soaking In the Splendor at Club Hotel Dolphin
On the subject of last stops, we’ve already recommended Avani Kalutara which sat in resplendent serenity between a river and an ocean. But if you wish to have a little more bustle as you end your Sri Lanka trip, then here’s what I recommend: Club Hotel Dolphin along the sunny West Coast!
Run by the same people as Avani Kalutara, Club Hotel Dolphin gives you the same level of quality and service in a different package. Whereas Avani is more geared towards those looking for a zen experience, Club Hotel is best with the family. Various activities they offer include pilates classes and kid activities, dart games and water volleyball, disco, tours, and cultural shows! It’s a vibrant experience that lets you get lost in all the fun. The experience reminded me of my stay in Kerala’s Ramada Cochin, which similarly has modern amenities and a slew of activities. Practicality-wise, Club Hotel Dolphin is very near the Colombo airport (literally right next to it!) so you don’t have to rush out on your last day.
Negombo Resort by the Beach
One sunny day in June, we had been invited by Destination Sri Lanka to promote the country’s tourism efforts. Our last stop was Negombo, where we ended up staying in the hotel. I continued on to Galle eventually, but for many this would be the last stop on the tour. Still, we were all dying to experience what would be the first beach area in our Sri Lankan tour.
Our destination greeted us warmly, literally and figuratively! The golden sun shone against the clean, crisp lines of the hotel’s design. Everything was clean and modern, and the care that went into the whole was very apparent. The hotel itself was pretty, and we would very much want to stay and snap a few more pics. But we had to delay the review of the interior because the beach outside was calling us!
So we set down our bags and almost immediately took to the golden sands meeting the sea. The colors everywhere were so bright, and a bright cheer greeted us as we made our way through the hotel grounds. A bit later, we found that the bright grandeur of Club Hotel Dolphin’s exterior extended to its rooms. The structure itself was big, and I ended up with a room that was far from the lobby and the restaurant. I can’t complain about the walk, though. In fact, I enjoyed it. It was very scenic, and I was treated to a view of many mangroves around the area.
My room fronted the pool, though, so I got easy access to its cool waters. It was also the perfect view from which we could watch the golden sunsets! This is really special for those whose last stop will be this hotel. As for me, I got to see this amazing show of fiery colors in the sky a few more times.
What to eat in Club Hotel Dolphin
They prepared cocktails for us after our first sunset, and we had an opportunity to explore some of their dining options. Both the restaurants are fittingly sea-themed. Sands Restaurant provided a multi-cuisine buffet, while Waves Restaurant gave us dining-with-a-view. The latter even had a show kitchen for those who want to see the magic the chefs weave!
Aside from these, there are also bars and snack bars along with specialty dining that’s perfect for the couples. Want to have a by-the-beach dinner under a shining arc of light? This is where you go! Don’t miss their signature dishes and cocktails as well!
Facilities in Club Hotel Dolphin
For those looking for complete amenities, Club Hotel Dolphin delivers. There are babysitting areas, a playground, a salon, various shops, even a library! Or, if the water sports are tiring you, you can take a more restful course by trying out fishing. It’s a pretty self-sufficient area, and you can find enough activities here to spend all your leisure time with.
Those who do not want to swim at the beach, for example, can take to the huge pool, which has lots of space for lots of people. There’s a smaller and more quiet pool out back, too. It’s still by the beach, and is great for those who want to swim by themselves.
There’s a spa and wellness option courtesy of the Senses Spa, giving you a taste of traditional Sri Lankan treatment. There’s also a gym with various equipment and complete with trainers.
For those looking for group activities, Club Hotel Dolphin holds various activities at specific hours on each day! All you have to do is check the schedule and show up at the specified time. These activities range from various exercises and water activities to sports and recreational matches. Of course, at night, there’s music and dancing! Other activities available include tennis, table tennis, a mini golf course, darts, and more.
There are a lot of reasons to stay here at Club Hotel Dolphin, and it’s best if you find your own. If you’re looking for a blast before heading to the boarding gates next door, enter the world of Club Hotel Dolphin and bask in its brightness!
