Dusit International Launches Innovative Hospitality School
with Fully Integrated Hotel in BGC
I’m both a foodie and an avid traveller. During my slower and less busy days, I make sure to have some major R&R at home or with family and friends. Two of my top things to do while in the city is to explore new eats and do laidback staycations. And this August 2018, I am excited as one of my favorite hospitality brands Dusit International is shaking up the standards of Philippine hospitality. The first of its kind in the region, Dusit launches Dusit Hospitality Management College. The school will also integrated with the Upmarket Hotel, dusitD2 the Fort, Manila.
Through an exclusive roundtable media discussion, we were treated to an afternoon of learning and good food as a preview to the world-class hospitality offered by Dusit Hotels International.
World-Class Hospitality Education at Dusit Hospitality Management College
Dusit Hospitality Management College (DHMC) offers aspiring hoteliers and restaurateurs (or even aspiring chefs like me) world-class education following a fully integrated approach. Set to open in the bustling Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, the school was built for young people and professionals looking to embark on a global career in hospitality management. And because DHMC uses technology to enhance learning, students no longer need to go to Europe to gain the education needed to unlock opportunities in International Hospitality Management.
- Director of Culinary Arts – Cyrille Soenen
- Managing Director – Lars Eltvik
DHMC brings together for the first time three of the most trusted names in the international hospitality and culinary education. Thailand-based Dusit International, Switzerland’s École hôtelière de Lausanne, and France’s Institut Paul Bocuse. With DHMC being fully integrated with dusitD2 the Fort Manila, students have unique opportunities to gain relevant work experience in all the areas of the hotel operations and at different levels throughout their studies.
“It makes perfect sense for Dusit International to situate its first college outside Thailand in Manila. Filipinos are well known and respected in the global hospitality industry as hard working, creative, and dependable,” explains Lars Eltvik, DHMC and dusitD2 the Fort, Manila Managing Director.
A Unique Hotel-College Integration at DHMC
DHMC’s unique hotel-college integration will allow students to have access and gain experience in first class hospitality and culinary facilities. The first and only in Southeast Asia, the school offers practical (open) kitchens, five restaurants, and function rooms. The hotel, on the other hand, boasts of recreational facilities (swimming pool and fitness center), and of course, exquisitely appointed guest rooms and suites.
On one hand, the fully equipped DHMC led by quality-certified instructors, create a very inviting learning environment for all of its students. In fact, during class breaks, students are invited to visit DHMC’s Student Service Center. A sort of 1-stop-shop, it acts as a think-tank slash chill-out zone where students can take time to relax or brainstorm about their next business idea.
On the other hand, with 125 rooms and suites, hotel guests are treated to a quiet respite to destress right in the center of Metro Manila. Located next to SM Aura, dusitD2 The Fort will have 120 rooms and 5 suites spread across 16 floors. While the school will take up the first 9 floors followed by Admin and Tech offices on the 10th and 11th.
The DHMC Education Curriculum
The DHMC curriculum follows the standards set by CHED. While DHMC’s bachelor degree is locally licensed in the Philippines, it is 100% certified by the world renowned École hôtelière de Lausanne. Throughout the 4-year program, students will gain work experience and exposure in the dusitD2 the Fort, Manila. Afterwards, they will need to embark on a six-month internship. This can be completed in the Philippines or abroad.
While matching the tuition fee of other local schools that offer 4-year baccalaureate hospitality degrees, DHMC is delighted to offer generous merit-based scholarships of up to 50 percent of tuition fees for exemplary students.
Open For Everyone with A Passion for Hospitality and Culinary Arts
Apart from DHMC’s 4 year course programs, hospitality and tourism industry professionals looking to further their careers can also turn to DHMC. That means aspiring chefs like me, have the chance to refine our skills and interests through DHMC’s Professional Advancement Program.
In collaboration with Institut Paul Bocuse, culinary and specialty programmes for career switchers are carried out by DHMC’s Professional Advancement Centre. The centre will offer a range of culinary courses of different duration. Interestingly, they even offer special courses wine appreciation (think Wine Science Lab!) and barista training.
The École Hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL) Executive Education
In addition to its bachelor’s and professional courses, DHMC also offers a few Executive Education programmes. These programs are designed to hone one’s business skills and acumen to work in a wide range of areas within the hospitality industry.
With its Driving Hotel Revenues Course, students are sought to develop a solid understanding of the key concepts in strategic revenue management. It will explore the relevance of revenue growth strategies and its respective operational aspects in hotel management, producing young hoteliers who are equipped to become management leaders.
To make the students’ hotel management experience more extensive, they will also be trained in Mastering Hotel Financials. It will develop student’s decision-making and financial planning skills essential to acquire competencies in analyzing hotel financial performances. This programme is key to estimate future performance and monitor variances between actual outcomes and projected ones in hotel finances.
“We are passionate about giving our students proper direction and opportunities to become successful on the world stage. There is a growing need for skilled and highly competent professionals in our industry across the globe. Our graduates, with their valuable knowledge and world-class education will be the leading hoteliers and restaurateurs for the next generation,” said Mr. Eltvik.
“We want to assure students—and their parents—that they are making the right choice by choosing DHMC to prepare and equip them with the skills and experience for a successful international hospitality management or culinary career.”
