New Menu Alert: Japanese-Filipino Fusion at Genki Sushi Philippines
I have always been a fan of food innovation. While I enjoy classic recipes in food, I also look forward to restaurants that offer modern twists to all-time favorites. Why? Simple because they breathe new life, new flavors, and new ways to enjoy dining staples. One such restaurant I’ve been looking forward to eat in is Genki Sushi Philippines. A chain of conveyor belt sushi restaurants established in 1990 in Japan. Check out my review of my first ever dining experience at this fun, interactive, and locomotive Japanese restaurant. (Plus, they have a new Japanese-Filipino menu to boot!)
The Genki Sushi Concept
So how does the Genki Sushi dining experience look like? What makes it special and visit worthy? Well, first, if you look at the restaurant as a whole, it actually looks like a mini version of a Shinkansen train.
Tables are lined up as booths, each having a tablet where diners can browse through the menu and punch in their orders. Then after 8-10 minutes your food arrives via a small Shinkansen-inspired bullet train to your table.
Food is delivered by batch of 4 small plates. So orders can only be punched in 4 items at a time as well. Drinks, of course, are served manually by the friendly wait staff of Genki Sushi Philippines.
Dining Tip: For every 10 orders, get a chance to spin the wheel. Spin 3 matching icons and you win a prize!
Bestsellers at Genki Sushi Philippines
One top tip I can give when you dine at Genki Sushi Philippines is to maximize the number of diners per table booth, which is 6. That way, you can also eat and savor on as much of Genki Sushi’s wide array of sashimi, sushi, donburi, and whatnots. Something that we purposely did. Thus, the super satisfying lunch at Genki Sushi Philippines’ SM Megamall branch.
I honestly enjoyed everything we had for lunch. Sushi rolls often came in three pieces per order and were big and tasty. Sashimi plates, on the other hand, were extra fresh and of premium quality. Donburi (rice toppings) were generous in serving and were savory and quite filling.
Out of everything, I enjoyed best the delicately-delicious Premium Grilled Salmon Belly Nigiri, the spicy Hana Sushi, and Yellow Tail Sashimi.
The Kimchi Poke Bomb, Fried Chicken Gunkan, and Seared Creamy Garlic Scallops are also top options at Genki Sushi Philippines. For rice, opt for the Black Pepper Chicken Don or the Salmon Teriyaki Don.
New Japanese-Filipino Treats at Genki Sushi
August is ‘Buwan Ng Wika’ in the Philippines. And that certainly is the perfect time to introduce new dishes that marry the exciting flavors of Japanese and Filipino food at Genki Sushi. For their new menu, Genki Sushi now serves three delicious sizzling plates for diners. Choose from three delicious varieties: Minced Seafood, Minced Pork, and Japanese Tuna Adobo.
I actually enjoyed all three new variants. They were meaty, savory, and filling. he minced pork being my top bet!
Drinks and Desserts at Genki Sushi
With good food, comes good drinks and great desserts. Lucky that we got recommended the best ones on the house that day. For drinks, you must not miss out on the new Matcha Latte from Genki Sushi. A refreshing balance of matcha goodness, milk, and delicious chewy pearls.
We all haven’t tried Genki Sushi’s desserts before. So we just ordered one of each: Genki’s Rare Cheese Cake, Matcha Cheesecake. Plus Vanilla, Strawberry, and Matcha (homemade) ice cream.
My top pick would have to be Rare Cheese Cake. A delicate slice of unbaked cheesecake that melts in your mouth. It was literally cheese heaven on a plate! Best paired with the mildly-sweet Strawberry ice cream with real fruit bits.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my first dining experience at Genki Sushi Philippines. A little on the expensive side but the quality, taste, and overall concept won me over. The best lunch ever!
