Where to Stay in Colombo: City Beds – The Regent Hotel Review
There are three things I prioritize whenever I book accommodations during our travels: Location, Price, Service. First, the hotel must be conveniently located. Hopefully walking distance or easily accessible via public transportation. Second, price is king. The type of accommodation must always commensurate to its price tag. Third, there’s nothing like being on a holiday and having friendly and courteous service. On our recent trip to Sri Lanka, I had a full day to spend alone in Colombo. And I booked what seemed the most reasonable place to stay in the heart of the city. Here are five reasons why I loved my stay at the City Beds The Regent Hotel Colombo (Hotel Review).
Central Location
Before I even booked my hotel, I knew I had to stay at a central location because of two things. One, I will be alone and only had one full day to spend in Colombo. Thus, I would need a place that was highly accessible. Second, I’m booked for two city tours: Colombo by Tuktuk and Colombo Tuktuk Safari. The first one was scheduled at 7:30 AM. So I needed to travel extra early from Negombo, drop my bags, and hurry off to tour.
Located opposite the Lake House Building, City Beds – The Regent Colombo is just 500 meters from Colombo’s city centre and 1 kilometer from the Pettah Market. There are also many cafés and eating facilities in the vicinity of the accommodation. Fort’s Train Station and Bus Station are 0.5 km from the property. It was so conveniently located, it only took me five minutes by foot to the meeting place of Urban Adventures (World Trade Center).
Chic and Modern Rooms at City Beds – The Regent
I must admit, I can get a little fussy about the overall look of hotels. While I do not necessarily need luxury accommodations all the time, a clean and well-put hotel room is a basic for me. I loved how the rooms at the City Beds The Regent come in a chic and modern design. Industrial marbled walls complemented by green and brass eccentric accents.
Each room also comes with a fan and private bathroom with a shower. I stayed in a Super Deluxe Queen Room (11 sqm.) and it also had complimentary coffee and tea.
Well-Equipped Hotel Facilities
Aside from in-room amenities, guests also benefit from access to a well-equipped shared kitchen.
There are also other value-added services like booking of tickets to attractions or shows, bicycle rental, and airport drop-off/pickup (with additional charge). There’s also a library filled with travel guide books, novels, and whatnots.
Their 24-hour frontdesk can also arrange money exchange, car rental, and tour bookings. Free WiFi is available in all areas and is free of charge. While those driving, have free private parking is available on site (reservation is not needed).
Affordable Accommodation in Colombo
It was my first time in Sri Lanka then so I didn’t have a benchmark for what’s cheap or not for accommodations. So after spending a few hours scouring for the best hotel deals online, I decided that a 40-50 USD hotel room per night in Colombo is pretty acceptable.
Luckily, I stumbled upon City Beds – The Regent. And it was decently priced at Php 2,547.04 or around USD 50.00 per night. Not bad for its location right?
Five-Star Service at City Beds – The Regent
One of the things I highly applaud City Beds The Regent Colombo for is their top-notch hospitality and service. Right from the get-go, Adam was very accommodating and prompt in responding to my e-mails when I inquired about hotel transfers. When I arrived early in the hotel, the staff warmly welcomed me. They even courteously offered to keep my bags while I go on my city tour around Colombo with Urban Adventures.
When I finally came back to check-in, Adam personally showed me to my room to make sure everything is in order. After having an afternoon siesta, their staff even came to my room to prompt me that my Tuktuk Safari driver has already arrived downstairs. Now that’s A+ service!
