Summer days are finally here. And after 2 years through the pandemic, we can all use a quick vacation! One default summer destination for us Manilenyos is Nasugbu, Batangas. Here are five (5) reasons why you need to book the Break Free Travel Package at the Pico Sands Hotel ASAP!
Stress-Free 5 Star Accommodation at Pico Sands Hotel (Reason 1)
My first stay at Pico Sands Hotel was back in 2014 when I attended my bestfriend’s wedding and I haven’t been back since. But I clearly remember how impressed I was with the size of Hamilo Coast. A sprawling 5,900 hectare private property bounded by clear blue waters with a 31 kilometer coastline and 13 privately-owned coves. Not to mention the long stretch of fine white sand that can easily rival other popular beaches around the Philippines. I particularly loved that the hotel and residential towers are strategically built around the man-made lagoon, adorned with amenities and lush gardens in between.
Now imagine waking up to that view for 3 days with the the Break Free Package at the Pico Sands Hotel. Three days of stress-free 5 star views and hospitality, far from the concrete jungle we all got stuck in back in Manila.
Lagoon View Rooms At Pico Sands Hotel
As with any 5-star resort, our Lagoon View Room at the Pico Sands Hotel was nothing short of remarkable. It had two king sized beds, a well-manicured toilet and bath, in-room facilities like a bar, coffee corner, safety deposit box, and a big Smart TV for entertainment. It even had an adjoining door to Anne’s room which also adjoined to Marky’s Room. The perfect setup for big families and groups. In-room dining is also possible, 24/7!
But you know the best part of our room? The spacious balcony that led to a stunning view of the lagoon and the hotel’s pool area with the IG-worthy mountain terrain as backdrop. One could easily spend hours upon hours by that spot reading a book while having tea or coffee on the side.
Guests that avail of the Break Free Package at Pico Sands Hotel can also expect exciting room gifts. Like the Abaca Face Masks (that can be planted after use), a Hygiene Kit, and a cute Pico Sands Eco Bag for the ladies and a Hat for the gentlemen. Into sports and recreational activities? The 3-day Break Free Package also lets guests experience Billiards and Bowling at the exclusive Pico de Loro Country Club. We tried our luck at darts and had so much fun learning!
And if you’re into running and hiking like I am, you can also go on a morning adventure to the Marina. A scenic 5 kilometer walk up through the hills with stunning views of Hamilo Coast. Just don’t forget to stop by “the Nest” and the Chapel along the way for the Gram, okay?
Exciting Sunset Cruise with Cocktails (Reason 2)
After exploring the hotel upon check in, we had a change of outfits for our Sunset Cruise. We took the shuttle to the Country Club then hopped on a posh yacht to take us around the different coves around Hamilo Coast. It was an easy 1.5 hour cruise that showed us marine protected areas like the Subli Cove, Pico de Loro, Turtle Island and Etayo Cove. We even saw the Broken Island that had a hidden bat cave on the side that was an IG worthy spot on its own! Exhilirating!
Of course no cruise is complete without refreshments! So as the sun began to set, our host served us red wine paired with individual platters of cheese, cold cuts, and crackers. CHEERS!
We giggled, took hundreds of photos, while singing out loud on the way back to the marina. Oh the joys of being with crazy, unfiltered friends!
Quick tip: Bring speakers and a Drone if you must!
Relaxing Body Massage at Rain, The Spa (Reason 3)
Karla and I always look forward to spa treats whenever we are on vacation. So while we enjoyed all the outdoor activities during the day, we couldn’t contain our anticipation over our relaxing body message at Rain. Located at the lobby area of Pico Sands Hotel, the Rain offers several spa packages for relaxation, rejuvenation, and healing of its guests. Advanced reservation is recommended as time slots run limited due to health and safety restrictions.
We naturally chose the 9PM schedule in a heartbeat. We were warmly welcomed by our therapists, Ms. Maricel and Ms. Rachel, for a short introduction before getting ushered into our private spa room. First on the agenda was a 10 minute steam bath for hygienic purposes. Or if you wish, you can also take a quick dip in the tub instead.
Alas, the moment we both have been waiting for: our hour long Swedish massage. I loved how both our therapists were friendly but very professional all throughout the session. They made sure to constantly check on our comfort and pressure levels from start to finish. Spa guests have the option for glove use of therapists. As well as not avail of the neck/head area massage as pre-caution.
Knowing the caliber of health protocols that Pico Sands Hotel imposes, we of course decided to go all out. And it was the best decision ever! Karla hasn’t had a massage for two whole years. And so we found ourselves dozing off into spa heaven halfway through. We ended our little spa trip with warm tea before tucking ourselves in for the night.
Private Island Tour at Santelmo Cove (Reason 4)
We are both beach babies by heart. So day 2 of our Break Free Vacation with Pico Sands Hotel was a major highlight for us. Clad in our cutest beach OOTDs we made our way to the Pico de Loro Country Club for a hearty breakfast. Then off we went for a 15-minute boat ride to Santelmo Cove.
Santelmo Island is one of the thirteen exclusive coves within Hamilo Coast. And may I say the prettiest one out there as well? A marine sanctuary by default, Santelmo Cove is blessed with a wide stretch of powdery white sand armed with a picturesque rocky cove on the side leading up to the mountain. A short 5-minute trek takes you to the viewing deck where you can get a panoramic 360 shot of the whole island. AND spot the black-tip baby sharks swimming along the cove. How exciting is that?
We loved how the sand had a fine quality to it that it wasn’t sticking to our skin, even after getting wet! The water was crystal clear and shallow enough for some sun frolicking, swimming, and paddle boarding. (More on our Little Mermaid inspired paddle board shoot next time! Haha).
Santelmo Cove: A Protected Marine Sanctuary
Of course we could not pass up on the opportunity to experience the richness of this so-called marine sanctuary. While our own free diver friend Anne explored the depths with our guide Kuya Jojo, Karla and Marky snorkeled around our boat. I was not able to swim because of my ankle injury, unfortuntely. But I was equally impressed by the myriad of color and variety of the fish I fed from the surface, including the elusive clown fish! The water in the cove was also saltier than usual making you naturally buoyant.
Tip: Please don’t forget to bring your own dive and snorkle gears. Rentals are prohibited for now.
Anne on the other hand dove down to 8 meters and spotted a school of Jackfish, mackerel, giant clams, giant batfish and more. Santelmo Cove is a nesting area for Olive Ridley turtles too, according to Kuya Jojo. We did see other boats and jet skis around but they did not dock on Santelmo Cove. So we literally had the whole island to ourselves.
Private Lunch Picnic at Santelmo Cove
And then time for our picnic lunch! Our personal ‘butlers’ for the day Jerry and Joana set up a beautiful lunch spread tucked under the island’s coconut trees. We feasted on our personal bilaos of pancit, fresh ensalada, grilled chicken and fish, shrimps, and fruits. We took a few more snapshots, lazed around on the daybeds, and swung on the hammocks for a bit. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!
Santelmo literally has everything going on to make it the perfect getaway island. Currently, one can only get access to it by booking a private tour as a member at Pico de Loro Club. That, or as part of the Break Free Package at the Pico Sands Hotel. Just a quick heads up though. There’s no signal in the island. But all the more reason to do a digital detox and simply enjoy all the beauty surrounding Santelmo Cove!
Delicious Full-Course Meals at Pico Sands Hotel (Reason 5)
To round up the 5 reasons to Book the Break Free Package at the Pico Sands Hotel: FOOD! To say we were stuffed to the brim is a serious understatement. Imagine having full-course meals all three days of your stay at Pico de Loro?
I’m not talking about small plates and standard set meals. I’m talking about 3-4 course meals met with real epicurean standards, quality, and variety. My favorite was the Spanish Dinner during Day 2! (More details in a separate blog).
