Must Eat and Bestsellers in ‘The Barracks Food Camp’ Tagaytay
If you are planning to spend your weekend in Tagaytay, a new food park near the Skyranch Leisure Park is a must try. Located along Emilio Aguinaldo Highway, The Barracks Food Camp on the Ridge as it is called offers a plethora of mouthwatering dishes.
Where to find The Barracks Food Camp
Frankly, The Barracks Food Camp is quite hard to miss since their signage bears the image of Derek Ramsay. Derek’s family actually owns the food park more popularly known as the “The Barracks”. This two-story food park is just one of the ventures initiated by his mother, in addition to a medical retreat resort and a soap making business.
The food park houses more than 30 stalls catering different tastes and flavors. You can basically find any food you want. One one hand, you can find local Filipino and regional dishes such as arroz caldo, Tagaytay Bulalo, and Cebu Kinilaw. On the other hand, you can also find usual street food like the all-time favorite isaw and barbeque, and even kakanin like bibingka and puto bumbong.
What to Eat at The Barracks Food Camp
American, Japanese, Mexican, and other international dishes are also available at the Barracks Food Camp . Meat dishes like grilled liempo, sisig, tapa, and pork ribs are all sizzling around the place. Fast-food staples such as pizza, burgers, fries, chicken wings, and pasta are also all over the menus.
A variety of drinks are also present. You can opt for the usual lemonade, fruit juices, and smoothies, or you can go all the way to beer and other alcoholic beverages.
Despite being located in central Tagaytay and having a very decent ambiance, the food in the Barracks Food Camp are actually budget friendly, perfect for family getaways or get together outing with friends.
Here are some of our favorite stalls and their dishes that we think worth your try when you visit The Barracks.
1. Sizzling Steakhouse
Sizzling Steakhouse offerings are perfect for those who are looking for a satisfying meal without spending much. Their steaks are very budget friendly but the taste will remind you of the steaks served to you on special gatherings and occasions. This is because the stall is also owned by the Ramsay family and the recipe they use is the same as the ones they use at home.
Their Sizzling T-bone with rice (Php 230) is actually a steal for its price since it also comes with pumpkin soup, mashed potato, and gravy. They also have the Harry Porterhouse with rice (Php 149) which seems to be bewitch as it can captivate your heart with just one bite.
Another must try in this steakhouse is their Selfie ka Salpicao a la carte (Php 249) good for one or two person.
2. Beef Overload
Beef Overload serves a variety of beef dishes with the Potato Beef Overload (Php200) as one of their bestsellers. Its potato chips and fries topped with ground beef, cucumber, tomato, cabbage, cheese, and dressing.They also have their Tapsilog (Php99) meal which can be perfectly paired with a bottle of beer.
3. 8 Spice
Heads up for all meat lovers out there, 8 Spice is the perfect stall for you. They serve smoked pulled pork sandwich and grilled pork rice meals. They also have their Meat Platter (Php750) which is perfect for sharing with your family or barkada.
Items on their menu are really budget friendly, which will surely make your stomach full but not your pockets empty.
4. Captain’s Bar Racks
If you are looking for the perfect drink that will go with the delicious dishes you ordered, Captain’s Bar Racks got you covered. They are a drinks-only stall and offers wide range of drinks for everyone.
Their Pink Lychee (Php300), Blue Lemonade (Php300), and Cucumber Lemonade (Php300) are some of their bestsellers and will definitely refresh you up and quench your thirst.
5. Lechon Kawali by Café Lulu
Lechon Kawali by Café Lulu serves all kinds of Lechon Kawali dishes. They cook their Lechon Kawali with local Filipino dish styles like adobo, tinola, and kare-kare as well as foreign flavors like their Lechon Kawali in Thai Curry Sauce (Php159).
Their Lechon Kawali with Bicol’s Best Laing (Php159) and Sinigang na Lechon Kawali (Php269) are one of their newest rendition and definitely a must try. They also have their Barkada meal (Php639) good for 3 to 5 person.
6. Savage Pie
Savage Pie’s main dish are their pizzas. But their flavors not the typical flavors you see in many pizza chains today. True to its name, Savage Pie offers unusual flavors like Carne Norte Pizza and Chicharon Longganisa Pizza.
One of their bestsellers is the Mango Adobo Presley Pizza (Php315). It may sound really weird but the combination of sweet tangy mango and the salty adobo contemplates and balances each other really well. It’s definitely one of the must tries.
7. Ningas Kugon
Ningas Kugon is for the grilled food lovers out there. They serve the usual isaw, barbeque, hotdog along with other grilled meat and seafood. They also offer their Boodle Habits (Php600) where you can choose from different combinations of grilled items. It comes with rice and red egg slices.
They also serve solo meals like the Chicken Satay (Php99) or Beef Kebab (Php120).
8. Selah and Manna
If you’re looking for the best burger inside the park, Selah and Manna is definitely your go. They serve a variety of grilled burgers and sandwiches. Their Baconized Burger (Php208) is one of their all-time favorites which is a cheeseburger with crispy bacon strips.They also have the Jalapeno Burger (Php185) or Nashville Burger (Php190) for those who want spice up their burger or the Beer Cheese Burger (Php178) for those who want an extra kick.
And if you are one of those who believes pineapple also belongs in hamburger, their Hawaiian Burger (Php198) is the perfect one for you.
9. Mister Pusit
The distinct smell of squid being fried or grilled will surely attract anyone in the Barracks towards Mister Pusit. They serve Flavored Butterfly Squid (Php270 – large with two java rice good for 3 person, Php190 – medium with one java rice good for 2 person, Php170 – grilled with one java rice good for 1 person). This comes with sour cream sauce or a soy glaze.
They also serve Calamari Platter with Fries (Php180) for appetizers or those who just want to have a quick bite.
10. Owen Sophia House of Delicacies
If you are looking for the perfect pasalubong for your relatives or officemates from your Tagaytay trip, Owen Sophia House of Delicacies products are the perfect choice. They sell Kakanin and other desserts like puto, yema, pichi pichi, and other sweets that everyone will love (Php395 – medium, Php295 – small, Php100- for 3 assorted snack pack).You can also buy their Gourmet tuyo (Php155/bottle) which is very popular and perfect for breakfasts or toppings on your pasta dish.
11. Hoo Aah
If you are wondering what their stall name means, it’s actually the sound you will make while eating their dish. Hoo Aah is well known for their GI Joe Wings (Php200/6 pieces, Php375/12 pcs, Php550/18pcs) which is Buffalo Chicken Wings in hot and spicy sauce.
Those who cannot tolerate spicy food can go for the Baby Jane Wings which is the same chicken wings but coated in sweet honey mustard sauce. They also have their bestseller Chicken Fries (Php150) which comes with three dips – sour cream, barbeque, or cheese.
