Sssshhh, want to know a secret? There’s a pretty hole-in-the-wall bar located along Chino Roces Avenue waiting for your to discover. Think of a speakeasy-slash-urban industrial inspired space filled with unique drinks and palatable tapas mixed with ambient music playing within a young and hip crowd. Welcome to 20:20 Bar!
We actually first stumbled upon 20:20 Bar back in January 2017 right about as the sun rose and we were making our way from our post-NYE celebration. It was our fifth bar for the night and tired as we were, we couldn’t help but notice that a plateau of people were walking through this secret driveway. And although we only spent 30 minutes in 20:20 back then, we swore we would be back, mostly because of the all-around feel good vibes and energy of the place.
And go back we did. From hosting foreign friends who were in town to casual night-outs with girlfriends, we made sure 20:20 Bar was always top of mind.
20:20 Bar’s Modern Eclectic Vibe
Located in La Fuerza Plaza along Chino Roces Avenue, 20:20 Bar has been in the Makati nightlife map since August 2016 and has hosted a good number of both local and international artists and DJs. Even before you step into this throbbing spot, you can definitely tell that 20:20 Bar is not your ordinary run-of-the-mill nightspot. Characterized by impressive floor to ceiling dark glass windows, immediately you can see the cozy Old-Americana meets Steampunk appeal of the whole place that’s peeking through.
And as you step in, prepare for some serious eye candy. A full-service bar accented with mismatched high stools and old lamps, servers clad in cool denim overalls, and a seated dining area reminiscent of the old-industrial era with its wooden panel floors, dark wooden tables and broken cemented lamp fixtures. Gaze up and you’ll see that above the bar sits an elevated steel floor that displays bottles of alcohol, graphic t-shirts, and vintage leather jackets; pieces inspired by owner Ana Ong’s parents’ countless trips to all those hot and dusty vintage shops all over the world. And to set the mood right, 20:20 Bar’s music direction ranges from Funk, to Soul, Jazz, New Wave, and even all the way to Hip-Hop; depending on the day or week you drop by.
20:20 Bar Tapas
Karla and I actually came from the Wrangler event next door at XX XX and by the time we got to 20:20, we were hungry for some good tapas! We had the Tortilla De Patata Con Alioli (Php 150), Gambas Al Ajillo (Php 200), Empanaditas (Php 150), Marinated Quail Eggs with Anchoas (Php 150), Pinchos de Marunos (Php 150) and the Chorizo con Vino (Php 200). And since we went on a Wednesday, all tapas were just priced at Php 100.00 (Wednesdays to Saturdays, 7-10 PM) which you can pair with a good glass of Red or White Sangria for just Php 300. So drop by during those days if you must!
Our personal favorites were the Gambas which were cooked in a traditional yet delectable way as well as the meaty, savory Empanaditas. And of course, we just had to snack on their famous Popcorn con Manchego y Chorizo. A grown-up version of the popular snack, 20:20’s popcorn will certainly whet your appetite and leave your craving for more. After all, what can be better than a marriage of cheese and chorizo (with a crumbled bacon taste), right?
Being a fan of clear liquor, I opted for their famed 20:20 Mule. Concocted by their Russian mixologist Alyona Vinogradova, the 20:20 Mule (Php 350) was a good mix of Vodka, fresh ginger ale, and sour mix. Loved how it was served in a classic copper mug and just had the right amount of sweet and sour elements. Definitely the classic and unadulterated fusion I was looking for in a drink.
It’s #Thirstday, treat ‘yo self! Have a 20:20 Mule from @2020bar. 🍸 . . . . . #cocktail #liquor #drinkstagram #food #discovermnl #2020bar #manilaeatup #manila #foodph #foodphotography #igersmanila #yummy #filipinofoodmovement #whattoeatph #eatsplorations #bars #onthetable #wimyummy #buzzfeast #huffposttaste #foodbeast #taste #vscoeats #dailyfoodfeed #spotph #drink #thursdays #thirstygram #love
Karla on the other hand, decided to pair the tapas with a classic glass of Red Sangria (Php 300). It was also good and perfectly complemented the savory flavors of the food served. Wished it had more fresh fruits in the mix though to add an interesting crunch in between bites.
With that said, I can definitely say that 20:20 Bar is truly a hidden gem and we’ll definitely be back for more good food, good drinks, and good times! Been here? Comment down your favorites!
